2024 GENERAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
By registering you agree to all rules and safety requirements.
It is your responsibility to ensure these requirements are met and maintained throughout the event.
Event/Site Safety Rules
Drivers must attend the drivers meeting.
The pit area speed limit is 5 mph.
Golf carts are allowed. Dirt bikes/ATVs are not allowed in the pit and camping areas.
No burnouts, donuts or any other dangerous driving is permitted in the pits.
Keep your area clean of trip hazards, trash and debris.
Campfires shall be contained within the provided fire rings with campground wood only, to prevent the burning of wood with nails as the rings are movable.
Camping is limited to drivers and their guests.
Excessive noise is not permitted of any kind.
Be respectful of the track and kind to everyone. We’re all here to have fun!
Drivers must convey these safety rules to their guests.
Drift prep is the key to keeping your vehicle safe and operable.
Drones are not permitted to be operated during the event unless contracted by DRIFT THE EAST, INC.
Driver/Passenger Safety
There shall be no loose items on, in or under your vehicle. Includes OEM floor mats, vent accessory mounts, windshield suction mounts.
Helmets shall be worn as-intended by manufacturers.
Only Snell SA2015, Snell SA2020 or FIA-8859-2015 (or better) rated helmets are permitted.
Full-faced helmets are recommended. Open-faced helmets should be worn with eye protection.
Close-toed shoes shall be worn.
Long pants, made of cotton or fire-retardant material, are recommended to be worn while driving or as a passenger.
If your car stops working for any reason other than fire, remain in your car. Assume the track is still hot until safety personnel arrive.
If your car catches on fire, exit your car quickly with extreme caution.
Unsafe driving and/or actions will not be tolerated both on and off track.
Only approved fuel containers and tanks shall be used and in max capacity of 5 gallons.
Drivers must convey these safety rules to their guests and passengers.
Periodic bolt checks and other inspections can help keep your vehicle safe and operable throughout an event.
Drivers and passengers shall be minimum of 14 years old and able to be safely fastened in seat without propping.
Fire suppression
Fire suppression is mandatory.
All fire extinguishers must be securely mounted using a METAL bracket within
reach of driver while harnessed in and must be clear of airbags.
Minimum 2lb of extinguishing required.
Extinguisher must have gauge, and gauge must be checked before each event.
Fire suppression systems can be either automatic or manual or both.
Release handle must be within reach of the driver seated with harness on.
Fire suppression systems should still function with vehicle power off.
Fire suppression release handle must be clearly marked for track safety responders and tech inspectors to see in case of emergency.
Engine/Drivetrain
Vehicles shall not have any leaking fluids.
Coolant overflow is required on all cars.
Oil catch can is required on all cars with a modified oil vapor recovery system and/or Dry Sump Systems
Heat shield required around the brake and clutch master cylinders when on the
exhaust side of the engine.
Heat shields are recommended even if master cylinders are on the intake side of engine.
OE heat shield is acceptable. (350Z/G35)
Gas cap required for all cars.
Gas must be sealed completely.
All cars shall have a firewall between the passenger compartment and the fuel cell.
Fluid lines may pass through the passenger compartment but enclosed in a steel or aluminum enclosure.
No fuel lines shall have fittings, junctions, or unions in the passenger compartment without fireproof and splash proof shielding.
All hoses shall be properly rated for the application for temperature, solvents, burst strength, and chemical resistance.
Fuel hoses shall be J30R9 rated or fuel rate AN braided hose.
Proper fuel hose clamps must be used on all fuel lines. Absolutely NO “alligator” style clamps.
Exhaust
Mufflers shall be present.
OEM exhausts shall be securely attached using all the factory attachment points
Aftermarket exhaust shall be kept clear of all fluid lines and exit the car past the rear axles.
Waste gates are permitted.
Exhausts may not be routed though the passenger compartment.
Lighting and Electrical
Battery or batteries shall be securely fastened with an OEM tiedown, metal tiedown, or another secure material that will not yield.
Battery tiedown may not be made from rope, rubber, and must be attached safely to the vehicle body.
Batteries inside the passenger compartment shall be vented outside the passenger compartment and tied down in an approved battery box.
Dry Cell batteries (Optima) are permitted to be inside the passenger compartment when properly secured per herein.
Brake lights shall be operational.
Hazard lights shall be operational.
If the car uses an OE ignition, the key shall shut off the car completely. If the car uses an aftermarket ignition, there shall be a kill switch mounted within reach of the driver while fastened into their seat.
All wiring should be insulated and mounted away from heat and moving components. No shorts should be found during tech inspection.
Suspension
Ball joints must exhibit no play.
Bushings must exhibit no tears or excessive movement.
Wheel bearings must exhibit no play or excessive noise.
Steering must exhibit no play or binding.
Lug nuts and/or bolts must all be present and torqued to specification.
Bolt on spacers and adapters are permitted if all lugs/ nuts are present and torqued to manufacturers recommendation.
Struts and shocks must not be leaking or blown
Springs must be uncut and secured to the perches
Strut and shock mounts must not exhibit excessive play and not bind.
Adjustable suspension components must have locking nuts to prevent
unintentional travel.
Body and Glass
All doors must be present
All spoilers must be securely mounted
A Minimum of (1) tow hook shall be required at the front of the vehicle.
A Minimum of (1) tow hook shall be required at the rear of the vehicle.
Factory tow hooks are acceptable if they are in good condition and easily accessible.
Hood and trunk must be securely fastened using the OE latch or aftermarket pins or latches. Aftermarket pins and latches are highly recommended to have a positive retention system.
Windshield must be free of cracks.
Chips must be no bigger than 3/4″.
The windshield, rear window and fixed side windows must be present.
Shatter resistant polycarbonate May be used.
Aftermarket windshields must be 1/4″ thick.
Aftermarket windshields must be securely bolted through the window frame.
There must be 5 minimum of (4) fasteners per window.
Window supports must be securely mounted.
Aftermarket side windows and rear windshield must be 1/8” thick.
Roll Cages if Installed
All roll cage designs should be constructed to provide 360 degrees of protection to all occupants.
All convertibles need a roll bar at minimum.
Must have a 1-piece diagonal in main hoop extending from above driver’s head to passenger floor and harness bar shall extend the full length of the main hoop and be positioned for proper harness mounting.
Rear mounting bars must be tied in at the rear shock towers.
Front cage design can be halo or A pillar bars. Roof bars are required if using A pillar bars.
Dash bar is recommended but not required if OEM support remains.
Gussets with dimples are optional.
Base plates or boxes are required where all tubes meet the chassis and must be welded on all edges.
All tube joints must be fully welded all the way around the tube.
Minimum tubing specification for all cars is 1.5”x0.095 DOM SAE 1018.
Cages must comply with current Formula Drift, US Drift, SCCA, or NASA specification.
For bolt-in cages, OE crash structure cannot be removed or modified.
Roll bar padding is recommended where the driver or passenger helmet may come in contact with the roll cage.
Seats and Belts
Harnesses must be properly mounted.
Harnesses must be FIA or SFI rated and not expired.
Harnesses must be mounted using correct hardware.
If using eye bolts and bolting through the floor, you must use fender washers on both sides to spread the load.
Harness shoulder straps must be mounted to a roll cage or separate harness bar and should not be outside of 20* of horizontal.
The seat cannot be used as a guide for the harness.
If the car does not have a roll cage, a harness bar can be used to mount the shoulder belts when using a harness. Must meet mounting requirements listed herein.
A 4, 5 or 6-point harness is required for a car with a roll cage installed. 5-point belt recommended.
All installations shall be properly installed and maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
If stock seats or non-FIA approved reclining bucket seats are used, stock seat belt must be used.
Aftermarket harnesses are not allowed to be used with these seats.
If race seats are intended to be used with stock seat belts, the lap belt part of the belt must pass through the holes in the side of the race seat.
Acceptable seat and harness configurations.
Stock seat, stock seat belt, no cage.
Reclinable seat that is NOT FIA approved, stock seat belt, no cage.
Fixed back race seat (FIA approval not required), stock seat belt, no cage
Fixed back race seat (FIA approval not required), 4-, 5- or 6-point harness, harness bar
Fixed back race seat (FIA approval not required), 4-, 5- or 6-point harness, roll cage
Passenger seat must also meet configurations above to be approved to take any passenger.
